Relief is finally arriving for Israel-bound travelers with new flight options and surprisingly affordable fares emerging from Wizz Air.
Following a two-month suspension, Wizz Air is capitalizing on the gradual revival of international airline operations in Israel. After initially dipping its toe back into the market with a Tel Aviv-Larnaca route earlier this month, Wizz has just announced plans to add connections to ten additional destinations starting January 15.
For travelers willing to stopover in Europe, flights from Tel Aviv to London start at $182 round-trip, while routes to Italian destinations including Rome and Milan begin at $129. The airline is even reopening its Abu Dhabi connection with fares from $195 and round-trip tickets to Budapest starting at $140. Ben Gurion Airport will also see the return of Wizz Air services to Athens, Vienna, and Bucharest.
The Hungarian carrier’s confidence in the Israeli market appears to be catching on. Greek airline Aegean has jumped into the fray, rolling out sub-$100 return fares between Tel Aviv and both Athens and Larnaca. As for other European airlines, only three have returned to Israel’s skies. LOT Polish Airlines is operating daily flights to Warsaw with potential future expansion. Air Europa has restored Madrid connections, while Aegean Airlines is serving Athens and Larnaca routes.
Wizz’s expansion marks a significant breakthrough in restoring international travel options to Israel, which have been severely limited since Hamas launched its attack against Israel on October 7, 2023.
Among U.S. carriers, American Airlines has pushed back service until September 2025, while United Airlines has scrubbed Israel completely from its schedule. Meanwhile, Delta Air Lines and Air Canada have both suspended their flights through March. Only El Al is operating direct flights to the U.S., with reports of a private leased aircraft by TechAir launching direct flights between New York’s JFK Airport and Tel Aviv starting January 21.
