Haman, Esther, Mordechai, and Achashverosh—Parallels of Leadership, From Ancient Persia to Our Modern World • Jewish Breaking News

Opinion piece by the President and Founder of United Hatzalah of Israel, Eli Beer

Megillat Esther, written over 2,500 years ago following the triumph over Haman, echoes into our era. Back then, Achashverosh ruled 127 provinces and was the most powerful ruler of his time. Today, many see Donald Trump, with immense wealth and influence, in that role, capable of shaping global dynamics.

Haman, the sworn enemy of the Jews, is mirrored today by the Iranian regime, Khamenei and his inner circle, who seek Israel’s destruction. Yet the Megillah teaches us the power of influence from within. Today’s Esthers, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff, are those closest to power, capable of turning the tide.

But Mordechai? The clearest Mordechai of today is Benjamin Netanyahu. He has devoted his entire career to safeguarding the Jewish people from Iran, beginning as a young ambassador at the United Nations. No other leader has been so focused on Iran for so long. He aims for victory, yet like Mordechai he is not universally loved. The Megillah says Mordechai was loved by most of his brothers, not all. Even after saving the Jewish people, not everyone embraced him. The same is true for Netanyahu. Even if he ensures safety, some will still oppose him. Much like Donald Trump, who even if he delivers prosperity will still face opposition.

In the end, just as in the Megillah, the combined efforts of the Achashverosh, the Esthers, and the Mordechai of our time will ensure victory. The plans of Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and their proxies to destroy the Jewish people, to harm Israel, Jews worldwide, and even America, will fail. The Achashverosh of our generation, the Esthers of our generation, and the Mordechai of our generation will ensure victory.

Every generation has its Esther moments. The question is always who will step up, and when.
