We can now confirm two Role Model facts that we all kind of already knew. One: Role Model (whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury) and Dakota Johnson are dating and have been for some time. Two: That is, in fact, Johnson’s voice in the bridge of the musician’s new song, “Love I You.” In an interview with Nylon, Pillsbury called Johnson’s performance “an amazing cameo,” even if she wasn’t originally meant to be the featured voice.
“I had a lot of names to pick from for that,” Pillsbury said, explaining that Johnson happened to come to the studio one day and was invited to do the spoken bit by guitarist and producer Mason Stoops. “I was like, ‘Stop! We’re not mixing work and relationships,’” Pillsbury said. But “she was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined. So I was like, okay, if she’s down — I mean, that’s an amazing cameo.”
Rumors that Role Model and Johnson were dating began in December 2025 and picked up again in January when they were photographed getting dinner together in Los Angeles. Until now, Pillsbury has played it coy about both the relationship and Johnson’s cameo on his song, which is a flirtatious spoken back-and-forth between the two of them. (In an interview with Zane Lowe that also came out Tuesday, he tried not to admit that the woman’s voice was Johnson’s, even though it is pretty recognizable.)
Sounds like they are at least ready to acknowledge being musical collaborators now. But don’t expect her to be doing “Sally” anytime soon.
