Mamdani’s 9/11 Tribute Draws Criticism Over Defund-The-Police Record And Hasan Piker Ties

Twenty-five years after September 11, Zohran Mamdani posted a message honoring the nearly 3,000 victims, including 2,753 New Yorkers, and praised the first responders, office workers, and strangers who ran toward danger to save others.

“Today, New York remembers. We will Never Forget,” Mamdani said.

But critics say the words ring hollow.

They point to Mamdani’s record as a leading advocate of the Defund the Police movement while serving in the New York State Assembly, a position they argue stands in direct conflict with honoring the NYPD officers who ran into danger on 9/11.

Critics have also highlighted Mamdani’s association with Hasan Piker, the far-left streamer who sparked outrage after saying America “deserved” 9/11.

For many New Yorkers, remembering 9/11 means more than a social-media post. It means honoring the police officers, firefighters, and civilians who gave everything that day, and rejecting those who excuse or minimize anti-American terror.
