Thousands of people, led by prominent Admorim, Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshiva, gathered in Tel Aviv on Motzei Shabbos for the levayah of HaGaon HaTzaddik Rav Mordechai Auerbach ZT”L, Rav of Kehillas Abir Yaakov, who was niftar shortly after Shabbos.
The levayah began at Rav Auerbach’s longtime beis medrash on Olifant Street in Tel Aviv, which for decades served as a center of Torah and tefillah. Olifant Street and surrounding roads were closed to traffic as thousands arrived from across Eretz Yisrael to pay their final respects.
Among those participating were numerous Admorim, Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshiva, together with Rav Auerbach’s talmidim and countless others who had been close to him throughout the years.
Members of the family delivered emotional hespedim during the levayah. Among the maspidim was Rav Auerbach’s brother, HaGaon HaRav Azriel Auerbach, one of the leading poskim in Yerushalayim, who mourned the tremendous loss to the family and the Torah world.
Following the hespedim in Tel Aviv, the levayah continued to Yerushalayim, proceeding from the Shamgar Beis Halevayos to Har HaMenuchos, where Rav Auerbach was brought to kevurah.
