WATCH: U.K. Green Party Leader DODGES Israel’s Right to Exist Question 7 Times

Green Party leader Zack Polanski refused to say that Israel has a right to exist when pressed repeatedly by his interviewer on a BBC Radio 4 program Saturday.

Polanski, who is Jewish, was barred from Israel after his party adopted a resolution a week ago stating that Zionism is racism while he was away on the campaign trail, though he endorsed the resolution.

The resolution, which passed by 1,022 votes to 813, says that “Zionism should be treated as any other form of racism” and calls for the “establishment of a single democratic Palestinian State in all of historic Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital,” which opponents see as a call to eradicate the only Jewish state in the world.

Polanski’s interviewer asked, “What we’re talking about is whether a state created by the United Nations in the aftermath of pogroms and Holocaust, the worst act of racism in the history of the planet, has a right to exist or not. This is a question you have always dodged. Will you now say that you think there ought to be a safe home for Jews in a state called Israel, the state created by the U.N.?”

“I believe everyone deserves a safe home, and I’ve not dodged the question in fact,” the Green Party leader said.

The interviewer pressed him again.

“This motion [the Green Party resolution] was co-proposed by a Holocaust survivor,” Polanski said.

The interviewer pressed him a third time.

“I believe Israelis and Palestinians should have equal rights in a democracy,” Polanski said.

The interviewer, refusing to let him get away without answering, pressed him a fourth time.

After three more times, Polanski finally said, still not answering the question, “I don’t believe that any state has the right to oppress or to commit apartheid, and certainly not genocide on another people. Now it may be that in the future that there is a solution, in which case Israelis and Palestinians can have equal rights.”
