Abdul El-Sayed Calls Rashida Tlaib His “Older Sister” During Progressive Gathering

“Rashida’s like my older sister,” El-Sayed said. “Every time I make a mistake, I get the text message. She’s like…very much older sister energy.”

Hamawy, an Egyptian-born doctor and former U.S. Army surgeon, recently won the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s heavily Democratic 12th Congressional District.

Celebrating his victory before supporters, Hamawy led the crowd in chanting the takbir, “Allahu Akbar,” three times.

His candidacy has drawn scrutiny over his past work with a charity whose director was later charged with concealing Al Qaeda ties and his volunteer service at a Gaza hospital where the IDF later uncovered Hamas tunnels. There is no evidence Hamawy knew about or participated in terrorist activity.
