Assad Tries Rewriting His Downfall In First Public Statement Since Fleeing Damascus

Mass-murdering Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad tried spinning his humiliating collapse as a military strategy in a delusional statement released today.

“As terrorism spread across Syria and ultimately reached Damascus on the evening of Saturday, December 7, 2024,” Assad began, addressing what he called “a flood of misinformation” about his fate.

According to Assad’s timeline, he remained in Damascus executing his duties until early Sunday, December 8th. As terrorist forces penetrated the capital, he says he relocated to the Russian-held Hmeimim airbase in Latakia “to oversee combat operations” in coordination with Moscow.

“Our forces had completely withdrawn from all battle lines and the last army positions had fallen. With no viable means of leaving the base, Moscow requested that the base’s command arrange an immediate evacuation to Russia,” Assad wrote.

“At no point during these events did I consider stepping down or seeking refuge, nor was such a proposal made by any individual or party,” he insisted. “The only course of action was to continue fighting against the terrorist onslaught.”

Throughout the statement, Assad repeatedly portrayed himself as unflinching in his commitment to Syria, declaring he was “the same person” who spent 14 years of war alongside his people “under bombardment.” He emphasized his history of refusing to “barter the salvation of his nation for personal gain” or compromise in exchange for “numerous offers and enticements.”

“I have never sought positions for personal gain but have always considered myself a custodian of a national project,” Assad wrote, claiming he maintained “an unwavering conviction” in the Syrian people’s will to protect state institutions “to the very last moment.”

But as Assad attempts to rewrite history from his Moscow sanctuary, his crimes are emerging on the outskirts of Damascus. Satellite imagery has revealed hundreds of mass graves believed to contain remains of some of the 105,000 Syrian civilians who simply vanished during Assad’s 24-year rule.

Infamously, Assad deployed sarin gas against his own people, killing hundreds, including innocent children. His regime conducted systematic massacres and used starvation as a weapon against opposition-held areas while his prisoners were packed into overcrowded cells and tortured on a routine basis.
