First Illuminated Passover Haggadah Features Imagery That Would Shock Modern Jewish Worshipers

Anyone who does not say these three things on Passover has not fulfilled his obligation: Pesach, Matza and Maror (Passover, matza and bitter herbs). Everybody who has ever taken part in a seder knows this phrase. However, another custom – pointing at a woman while saying “Maror” (bitter herbs) during the reading of the Haggadah – appears only in the “Prague Haggadah,” the earliest fully extant illustrated and printed version of the ritual.
