Gal Gadot Brings Two Shofars To Jimmy Kimmel, Explains Gefilte Fish And Blows One Together With Him Ahead Of Rosh Hashanah

Just before Rosh Hashanah, Israeli actress Gal Gadot brought Jewish tradition to Jimmy Kimmel Live, arriving with two shofars: one for herself and one for Kimmel to try.

Gadot appeared on the show to promote her new Amazon Prime Video thriller, The Runner, which follows a mother racing across London after her son is kidnapped. The film was released September 2 and quickly reached No. 1 on Amazon’s charts.

As the interview wrapped up, Kimmel wished Gadot a happy New Year and asked about traditional Rosh Hashanah foods. Gadot explained that her family enjoys apples and honey, honey cake, and gefilte fish.

“I love gefilte fish, for the horseradish,” Gadot said, adding that while she mainly eats it for the horseradish, she does enjoy it.

Then Gadot took out the two shofars she had received from her rabbi. She explained that the straighter one would be easier to blow, while Kimmel’s more curved horn might be harder. But remembering his clarinet background, she encouraged him to give it a try.

Before they played, Gadot explained the deeper meaning of the mitzvah:

“The mitzvah, the good deed, is to hear the shofar. It’s basically supposed to awaken the soul for a good year for everybody to come.”

“We could use a good year,” Kimmel replied.

Both managed to sound their shofars, then playfully improvised together. The two burst out laughing as Kimmel joked, “We should start a band.”

A beautiful and lighthearted moment of Jewish pride just in time for the New Year.
