New York Magazine devoted its latest issue to the character of New York in the Mamdani era, under the cover title “Habibi City.” The magazine ran several sweeping features on Arab, Muslim and Palestinian culture, which is growing ever more popular and dominant in the city. The immigrants who came to New York from the SWANA region – South West Asia and North Africa – are now, the magazine says, the ones setting the tone, proud to claim a prominent place in what the issue dubbed “Mamdanistan”: that is, New York City.
