A young Israeli tourist was brutally assaulted outside his hotel in Limassol after attackers heard him speaking Hebrew, according to multiple reports. He was beaten until he lost consciousness and suffered a serious eye injury.
Accounts differ on exactly how it started: some reports describe a group of youths, while Israel’s public broadcaster cited the victim’s father describing a single assailant who approached him and then attacked. What’s consistent is that Hebrew was the flashpoint.
He was first treated locally and then flown back to Israel for urgent care, including eye surgery, with reports warning his vision was in grave danger.
The family describes the assault as antisemitic and says they struggled to get help immediately, including difficulty reaching Israeli representatives over the weekend. Hebrew should never be a liability anywhere on earth, and this is the kind of warning sign Israelis and Jewish communities can’t afford to ignore.
