Hamas has released a new propaganda video of hostage Edan Alexander, with his family approving its publication just before Passover. In the three-minute video, Alexander appears physically and mentally distressed.
“I am collapsing physically and mentally,” says Alexander. “I am collapsing because of this disgusting world and disgusting Israeli government.
The 21-year-old American citizen, who joined the IDF as a lone soldier after growing up in Tenafly, New Jersey, was stationed near the Gaza Strip when Hamas terrorists captured him during its October 7, 2023 attack. It marks the second propaganda video Hamas has published of Alexander.
In the video, Alexander claims Hamas was prepared to release him weeks earlier: “I heard that three weeks ago, Hamas was prepared to release me, but you refused and abandoned me here!”
He then directs his attention to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of controlling Israel “like a dictator,” and makes a direct appeal to US President Donald Trump: “President Trump, I believed in you. I believed you would free me alive. Why have you fallen victim to Netanyahu’s lies?”
Alexander’s parents, Yael and Adi, issued a statement following the video’s release: “Our son Edan’s love for Israel led him to leave his comfortable life in New Jersey and join the IDF. On October 7, he stood his ground alone at his military post, trying to protect nearby communities from Hamas terrorists. Now he remains alone in tunnels, in enemy hands. Each moment grows more unbearable. You can see it in his face – his fear, his desperation.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke with Alexander’s family Sunday evening, expressing sympathy for their pain and assuring them that “tremendous effort is currently underway” to return all hostages home. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir also spoke with the family, stating that the military “takes every step with the hostages in mind.”
