A disturbing report has exposed how British officials knowingly funneled tens of millions of pounds to UNICEF operations in Gaza while fully aware that Hamas would directly control fund distribution.
Documents obtained by Israel’s Channel 12 reveal a 2022 Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office paper titled “The British Humanitarian Support Plan for the Occupied Palestinian Territories” reveal officials acknowledged their funding would be “implemented in coordination with the Hamas run Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), with UNICEF planning to “work closely with the ministry on cash” distribution.
“Therefore, British aid may be linked to support for Hamas, an organization that has been declared illegal, or other terrorist groups, which could be perceived as links between British aid and support for terrorist groups,” the leaked document states. If exposed publicly, such connections could cause “serious damage could be done to Britain’s reputation.”
Channel 12’s investigation suggests Britain has become Hamas’s primary Western funding source. UK-based charities allegedly channeled hundreds of millions of pounds to Hamas over the past decade, with approximately 25% of non-state Hamas funding originating from Britain.
“Hamas is strong in Britain because over the years they have become accustomed to the fact that there they can do almost anything they want, certainly in relation to other European countries. They have managed to develop very sophisticated financial institutions,” says Former Shin Bet official Oz Noy “These are systems that help and assist Hamas in transferring funds, laundering money – and also making money.”
Last week, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney recently and French President Macron in demanding Israel cease Gaza operations or face consequences. On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired back, accusing all three leaders of being “on the wrong side of justice, humanity and history.”
