Is the Summer House season-ten reunion the most important reality-TV episode of our time? After the trailer dropped on Tuesday, the answer may be “yes.” Despite some early leaked audio from the room where it happened, it seems the Summer House crew still has plenty of dramatic twists to surprise us. The leaks did not give away that there would be an on-camera West Wilson and Amanda Batula kiss, for instance. You don’t even need to have watched Summer House to recognize this particular television event’s importance in our culture.
By some stroke of incredible luck, the moment Lindsay Hubbard learned about the West-and-Amanda affair was caught on-camera during what looks like a confessional interview. Thus, the trailer begins with Hubbard doing a dramatic reading of Wilson and Batula’s joint statement confirming their relationship, switching to voice-over as the cast arrives at the reunion one by one. These are the kind of theatrics the people want. Then we get Wilson and Batula casually smooching “hello” right before filming begins. Perhaps they too have Hubbard’s voice reading their words aloud ringing in their ears at this moment.
At another point, Jesse Solomon is weeping on the couch as he tells Andy Cohen, “I feel like I’m losing a brother.” The trailer also gives us a glimpse of one moment when Batula tearfully left the room to gather herself, prompting Ciara Miller to tell Wilson (theoretically Batula’s partner at this time) to follow her. “Get up and go after your girl,” she says. This is echoed by Hubbard, who repeats the sentence more forcefully, as is her style.
Yet do you know what the most surprising thing from this trailer is? Carl Radke openly flirting with Hubbard, his ex-fiancée. After Solomon says Hubbard looks like Cruella de Vil, Radke responds, “Yeah, it looks good.” What is happening?! I’m so excited.
