TRUMP: Iran Deal Is Days Away After Ceasefire Dispute

President Donald Trump, in a phone interview with an ABC News reporter, said that a deal with Iran will be reached in the coming days. He has been saying for the past week that a deal is nearly in place and would bring the three-month war to an end.

“There was a little glitch today, but I turned that one around very quickly, as you probably noticed earlier,” Trump told the reporter, referring to Iran’s insistence that there would be no deal unless Israel committed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah too. Washington and Jerusalem had until now resisted Tehran’s demands to tie a ceasefire to Lebanon, but at Iran’s insistence, Trump directed Netanyahu to call off planned strikes in Beirut.

In a telephone kerfuffle earlier between the president and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump reportedly shouted at Netanyahu, calling him “crazy” and asking, “What the f— are you doing?”

But ultimately, Trump got what he wanted.

“I spoke with Hezbollah, and I said no shooting; and I talked to Bibi and said, no shooting; and they both stopped shooting each other,” Trump said in the phone interview.

He added that a ceasefire deal with Iran would be “even better than a military victory.”

“It’s not an easy thing for them. It’s actually not easy from our standpoint either. But we’re getting what we need to get,” Trump explained.

Military analysts have pointed out that a ceasefire will give Hezbollah time to regroup and rearm, and indeed, Israel had ramped up operations recently in order to inflict as much damage as possible before receiving the stand-down order from Trump.
