President Donald Trump has unveiled the first image of the newly completed White House helipad and landing zone on the South Lawn, a project he says was finished ahead of schedule and under budget.
Trump described the granite landing area as a “Gift to America,” saying it replaced deteriorating asphalt near the White House’s main entrance with high-grade white granite. He said the material is four to five inches thick and designed for exceptional durability.
In his announcement, Trump said the heliport path now runs directly to the main entrance, where doors and hardware were also upgraded. He framed the renovation as part of a broader effort to restore what he called the “beauty and magnificence” of the White House.
The White House has historically lacked a permanent helipad, with presidential helicopters typically landing on the South Lawn grass. Construction on the new granite landing area was reported earlier this year. Associated Press
