David Beckham is defending his wife’s right to look totally uninterested in soccer. On Saturday, the impeccably posh Victoria Beckham joined her husband (and very famous former England captain) plus three of their kids — Romeo, Cruz, and Harper — in a box at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium to watch England take on Norway as part of the ongoing World Cup. When England scored its winning goal in extra time, launching the team to the semifinals, everyone around Victoria, including David, jumped around, shrieked, and celebrated with wild enthusiasm. Victoria, meanwhile, didn’t even crack a smile. Sunglasses on and looking unbothered as ever, she simply reached for her phone, took a photo, and moved on with her life.
Photos of Victoria looking deeply bored during the celebration circulated online, where she was (mostly) praised for living her truth. Comedian Jenny Johnson posted an Instagram ode to “England’s number one fan Victoria, Lady Beckham!” “There’s nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile!” she wrote. “It’s so infectious! I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water!”
David, meanwhile, hopped in the comments to show his own appreciation. “She was celebrating inside I promise,” he wrote with a crying-laughing emoji. “Her reactions were slightly slower than mine.” May we all aspire to such levels of nonchalance.
