GRAPHIC VIDEO: Knife-Wielding Woman Charges NYPD Moments Before Officers Open Fire After Deadly Times Square Stabbing
Dramatic video captures the moment a woman armed with two large kitchen knives charges toward NYPD officers in the heart of Times Square, forcing officers to open fire after Tasers failed to stop her.
Police say 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros had just carried out two apparently random and unprovoked stabbings, killing a 32-year-old woman and stabbing a 68-year-old man in the abdomen. The man has since stabilized.
Officers repeatedly ordered Cisneros to drop the knives. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said she instead threatened to kill the officers before advancing toward them. Two officers then opened fire, fatally striking her.
Police say Cisneros had a documented mental-health history and there is no indication the attack was terrorism-related.
