Man Returning From Democratic Republic of Congo Hospitalized Over Suspected Ebola Infection

A man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Israel is hospitalized in isolation at the Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva on suspicion that he contracted Ebola, the Israeli Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

The patient sought medical treatment after developing a fever and is currently being tested. Results are expected within the next 24 hours, according to the health ministry, which said it has launched an epidemiological investigation.

The ministry added this is only a suspected case and said health systems in Israel had prepared in advance for a potential Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda to reach Israel.

The ministry also urged the public to avoid nonessential travel to those areas. Travelers returning from Congo or Uganda who develop a fever or other symptoms within 21 days are instructed to remain at home and immediately contact the Health Ministry’s hotline.
