ANOTHER NUKHBA COMMANDER DOWN: IDF Eliminates Hamas’ Yusuf Aqila in Gaza City

The IDF announced Monday that it had eliminated Yusuf Aqila, a company commander in Hamas’ elite Nukhba unit, in a vehicle strike in the Gaza City area. The military said in a statement that the terrorist had directed attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and had worked “to restore Hamas’ terrorist capabilities, in systematic violation of the ceasefire.”

“The strike was conducted to remove the immediate threat he posed,” the IDF added, saying that the strike was conducted using precise munitions and aerial surveillance to minimize harm to civilians. It also said that its troops remain deployed in the area under the Southern Command and vowed to act to remove threats to the security of Israelis.

Users on X expressed glee over the killing.

“Yusuf Aqila, Abu Al-Walid, a commander in Hamas’ military wing, was killed in an attack on a vehicle in western Gaza City. His limbs were severed. Because nothing says ‘high-value leadership’ quite like becoming a same-day assembly kit. Western Gaza delivery has never been this thorough,” one social media user said.

Abu Al-Walid is an alias for Aqila. Initial reports seem to suggest that his daughter was also killed in the strike and six others were wounded.

The Nukhba unit of Hamas is an elite special operations force within the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. The unit is composed of highly trained special operations combatants who carry out infiltrations, raids, and ambushes. Israel has said that this unit led the Oct. 7 attack against Israel in 2023.
