IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir launched a surprise General Staff exercise Sunday morning aimed at testing the military’s readiness for a sudden, rapidly developing multi-front war ahead of the upcoming Yomim Tovim.
The drill, dubbed “Breaking Dawn 2.0,” was held alongside ongoing operational activity and examined the response of command headquarters and field units to a fast-moving multi-arena scenario. Elite units were mobilized, senior officers were called in, and the Air Force also took part.
Zamir said the IDF is operating during a “tense and volatile period across all arenas” and stressed that the military’s baseline posture must be readiness for a surprise attack. He said the exercise is also intended to test whether current orders remain applicable from the General Staff level down to units in the field.
The Chief of Staff described the exercise as a significant part of the IDF’s preparations for the Yomim Tovim, underscoring the message that the military cannot assume quiet during the holiday period.
