Amazon is selling scary costumes and Halloween decorations with Star of David imagery, which can be seen as an attempt to associate the Jewish symbol with evil.
A woman who ordered a witch decoration for her lawn did not realize the spell book in the witch’s hand was decorated with the Star of David, not having taken a closer look after her handyman set it up for her.
The witch sports the classic scary-witch look: bulging eyes, warty nose, mostly toothless gums bared in a terrifying grin, and claw-like hands ending in talons that clutch a faux leather-bound grimoire. The decoration departs from the classic witch look with a Star of David emblazoned on the front and back covers.
The cost of the decoration is $219.
The Brooklyn resident only found out about the symbolism when The New York Post called her to ask about it, and she reacted with horror.

“I’m very upset, this is horrible,” the woman said. “I don’t want to insult any religion. I’m sensitive about these things. I’m a big supporter of Israel and the Jewish people.”
“I didn’t even look at it,” she said. “I should take it up with Amazon.” But for now, she has painted over the symbol to conceal it.
Moshe Spern, an activist and president of United Jewish Teachers, also recoiled from the association of the Jewish symbol with evil.
“Amazon is openly selling a life-size witch reading from a spell book stamped with the Star of David. It’s the oldest antisemitic smear: Jews are sorcerers or practice witchcraft,” he said.
“This trope is now repackaged as Halloween décor and shipped by the biggest retailer on earth. Somebody at Amazon either didn’t notice or didn’t care. And now it shows up in Brooklyn, New York with all-time highs in antisemitism,” he added.
That is not the only Halloween item stamped with the Jewish star that Amazon is selling. StopAntisemitism posted on X photos of a Dr. Evil costume that comes with a ring bearing the Jewish symbol, unlike the Austin Powers character’s original ring, which sports the letter “E” along with a crest.
StopAntisemitism posted photos of the costume alongside a statement, saying, “Amazon is selling an Austin Powers/Dr. Evil Halloween costume that replaces the character’s original ring with a Jewish Star of David. There’s already more than enough antisemitism in the world. Why put a Jewish symbol on a costume, Amazon?”
