Fontaines DC brought their highly anticipated tour to London’s Finsbury Park on Saturday night, drawing 45,000 fans to the sold-out venue. But what should have been a celebration of the Irish post-punk band’s music quickly transformed into a hate fest against Israel.
Palestinian flags adorned stage equipment while enormous screens flanking the performance area broadcast “Free Palestine” in the band’s signature gothic styling during multiple songs performed by the once respected band.
Lead singer Grian Chatten rarely broke between songs to speak, dedicating one song to his “little girl”, but when audience members began chanting “free Palestine,” he echoed their antisemitic calls. During the band’s track “I Love You,” screens cut from vintage-style performance footage to display the Hamas propaganda messaging as Chatten sang lyrics referencing “selling genocide and half-cut pride.”

Before Fontaines DC took the stage, Chatten had joined supporting act Kneecap for their collaboration “Better Way To Live.” Wearing a silver jacket and glasses, he embraced the Irish rap trio and shouted “Free Palestine” during their joint performance. Australian rock band Amyl and the Sniffers also served as an opening act.
As the main set concluded, screens displayed a final message reading “Israel is committing genocide. Use your voice.” Chatten then simply told the crowd “cheers London, thank you very much,” waved goodbye, and exited the stage.
