Gaza — Israeli journalist Amit Segal published a map today showing the scale of destruction and territorial control in Gaza nearly a year after the October 7 Hamas assault on Israel. The map is marked with red dots for every site where buildings have been destroyed, with large yellow areas indicating territory now fully under IDF control.

The war began after Hamas fighters stormed southern Israel on October 7, killing some 1,200 people and taking more than 240 hostages. Since then the IDF has carried out a relentless campaign from the air and on the ground, devastating much of Gaza and displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

International mediators have pushed for a ceasefire and hostage release deal, but talks remain fragile. Israel insists Hamas must be dismantled before peace can be achieved, while critics warn the destruction risks fueling another cycle of violence. Segal’s map, now circulating widely, underscores Israel’s military dominance in Gaza but also highlights the unanswered question of what comes next.
