The father of the knife-wielding terrorist behind last week’s deadly synagogue attack in Manchester allegedly praised the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre in Israel as a “miracle” and described the killers as “God’s men on earth,” according to a report in British media.
Faraj Al Shamie — a surgeon and father of attacker Jihad Al Shamie — posted a series of pro-Hamas statements on Facebook, including one hailing the 2023 slaughter of Israelis as a “miracle by all standards.”
On Oct. 7, 2023, he wrote that the Hamas terrorists who carried out the atrocities “prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Israel will not remain.” He added:
“Men like these prove they are God’s men on earth, and regardless of who leads them, this is the true compass for men confident of their victory even if their means are limited. May God protect Palestine and its heroic people. God bless you and may He bless you with true men from the lineage of true men.”
Days later, he questioned why Hamas lacked broader support, writing:
“Our brothers in Palestine are publicly asking for help from anyone who still has a part of honor or humanity, but with God’s permission they will be victorious oh you who sold your religion.”
The revelations emerged just hours after the Al Shamie family issued a public statement condemning Thursday’s attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, which left two worshippers dead.
“The Al-Shami family in the UK and abroad strongly condemns this heinous act, which targeted peaceful, innocent civilians,” the family said. “We fully distance ourselves from this attack and express our deep shock and sorrow over what has happened. Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we pray for their strength and comfort.”
The attacker, 35-year-old British citizen Jihad Al Shamie — whose first name itself is synonymous with radical Islamist ideology — rammed his car into pedestrians before launching a stabbing spree on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. He was shot dead by police while attempting to storm the synagogue.
Manchester residents Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were killed in the assault. Authorities said the investigation into Al Shamie’s motive remains ongoing.
