Captain Eden Nimri represented Israel in the pool before defending it in uniform, and now her handwriting represents the nation in the Olympic Committee’s logo as part of a special Memorial Day commemoration.

The Olympic Committee of Israel has changed its official logo to incorporate the handwriting of Captain Nimri, a professional swimmer killed during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on the Nahal Oz IDF base. The logo features the Hebrew word for “Israel” written in Nimri’s own handwriting.

Nimri was a standout member of Israel’s youth swimming team, representing the country at international competitions including the 2018 European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships and the 2017 World Championships hosted by the International School Sport Federation.

Before her death, Nimri served as a commander of an all-female team in the elite “Sky Riders” unit. During the October 7 attack, she fought against Hamas terrists assaulting the on-base bomb shelter, sacrificing herself while enabling 11 fellow soldiers to escape to safety.

“This is the second Memorial Day without Eden, but her inspiration and her bravery are always with us. The decision to memorialize her through her handwriting is moving and profound,” her mother, Sharon, said in a statement shared by the Olympic Committee.

“She fought to save others. Seeing her handwriting preserved in this way is deeply emotional and meaningful. It proves once again how significant she was in her life – and how significant she will remain.”

As part of this tribute, Israeli Olympic athletes will share personalized graphics using Nimri’s handwriting on their social media accounts, expressing solidarity with her memory and the values she embodied.

“The commemoration of Eden Nimri through her handwriting is not just a personal and emotional tribute,” said Sivan Fischler, Deputy CEO of the Olympic Committee of Israel. “It’s a powerful reminder of courage, perseverance, and dedication – values that lie at the heart of both sport and service. We are proud to take part in this initiative, and believe Eden’s story, along with that of all the fallen heroes, will continue to inspire athletes and the wider public.”

The initiative is part of the broader “Forever Written” project (known as “Ot Zikaron” in Hebrew). The project honors fallen soldiers by creating original fonts based on their handwriting, working closely with their families to preserve their legacy.
