Eulogized by President Emmanuel Macron as ‘humanism embodied,’ Edgar Morin fought in the French Resistance and is remembered for his scholarly contributions to sociology and philosophy
French Jewish philosopher Edgar Morin – who died on May 29 at age 104 – was described by the left-wing French daily Libération as “the grandfather of all French people.” His 100th birthday was held at the Élysée Palace, the presidential residence; last week, his state funeral at Les Invalides was attended by François Hollande and Emmanuel Macron.
