National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett became involved in a heated confrontation Tuesday after encountering one another at the Walla newsroom. The exchange quickly turned into a public dispute over Bennett’s previous government and his cooperation with Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas.
Ben Gvir challenged Bennett to participate in a one-on-one public debate. Bennett declined, explaining that his election campaign was directed against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rather than Ben Gvir.
The disagreement intensified when Ben Gvir accused Bennett of forming a government with Mansour Abbas. Bennett responded by accusing Ben Gvir of previously supporting the possibility of a government dependent on Abbas, an assertion Ben Gvir rejected.
The confrontation concluded with the two continuing to exchange accusations about their previous political positions. Neither politician announced an agreement to participate in a debate following the encounter.
